The Grant County Library Foundation (Library Foundation) has received a grant from The Oregon Community Foundation\'s (OCF) participating funds. The funders contributing to this grant are the Jerome S and Barbara Bischoff Library Subfund, the Shelk Fund, and the Ward Family Fund. The total of the grant is $20,000,
For a number of years the Library Foundation has been working towards building a new library building for Grant County. In 2012, they purchased property on Canton Street in John Day for the new building, completing Phase I. Since then, the Library Foundation has been working to raise money to continue this project, holding fundraisers and accepting donations from community members. With the additional funding from this grant, the Library Foundation will now be able to hire an architect to prepare the preliminary design for the new Grant County Library building, in preparation for the launch of a capital campaign (Phases II and III).
The mission of The Oregon Community Foundation is to improve life in Oregon and promote effective philanthropy. OCF works with individual, families, businesses and organizations to create charitable funds to support the community causes they care about. Through these funds OCF awards nearly $70 million annually in grants and scholarships.
The Oregon Community Foundation makes grants through an application process that involves local citizens in the review and evaluation of requests for funds.
