Grant County Library Foundation's Read-A-Thon
April 12-18, 2015

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Grant County Library Foundation would like to invite your child to participate in our third annual Read-A-Thon. We designed this event to encourage students to read, and to help the Grant County Library Foundation build a new library.

To participate in the Read-A-Thon, your student will ask family members, friends and neighbors to sponsor their reading during the week of April 12-18. For every page that your student reads, the sponsor will donate money to the Grant County Library Foundation's building project. This is a great way to promote the joy of reading, plus develop pride in community service.

The Grant County Library Foundation is fundraising for the construction of a new library for our county. With funds from previous donations, fundraisers and grants, we have already purchased the property on Canton Street in John Day. Now we need to continue our efforts so that the building can be designed and built to meet the current and future needs of our county. Please encourage your student to help us move this project forward. A new library will benefit all in Grant County, from students to the elderly, and job seekers to employers. A library is an essential part of every community.

Participants in the Read-A-Thon will need a packet containing information for potential sponsors, a sponsor form and a tracking sheet (see the downloads section of this website). The student will use the Information Sheet when talking with potential sponsors to help explain the purpose of the Read-A-Thon. The Tracking Sheet is to record the number of pages read, including the date and time of the reading and the title of the book or article. We ask that you verify your student's reading record by initialing in the right column. The Sponsor Form is used to list their donor's names, phone numbers, and pledged amount. Sponsors may pledge per page or a single amount for participation. The pledged amount will be collected by the student from their sponsors as soon as possible after April 18th. Checks should be made payable to Grant County Library Foundation. The checks or money from sponsors, tracking form and sponsor form should be turned in to the school by April 24th. Forms are available from your school, the Grant County Library, online at GCLibraryFoundation.com or by accessing the Grant County Library Foundation's Facebook page. If you have questions, contact Tracie Unterwegner of the Grant County Library Foundation, 541-575-1219.

Each student that participates in the Read-A-Thon will receive recognition from their school plus a thank you bookmark from the Foundation.

Thank you for encouraging your student to read, and helping the Grant County Library Foundation build a new library.
