NEW LIBRARY FAQS

WHY DO WE NEED A NEW LIBRARY?
While the current library has been a wonderful asset to Grant County, the building no longer meets the needs of the community or current library standards. The new building will be larger with a more open floor plan so that the library staff can see and monitor patrons using the facility. It will be energy efficient and ADA compliant. There will be a small conference room and a larger makerspace for classes, meeting and educational programs. Quiet corners for reading will be available. An expanded and inviting children’s collection and story time area will be added.

WILL THIS AFFECT MY PROPERTY TAXES?
No. The library is a service provided by Grant County and financed by the county general fund. The dollars needed to build the new building will come from donations, grants, fundraisers and in-kind work.
AREN’T LIBRARIES BECOMING OBSOLETE?
Research shows that libraries are valuable to communities and are not obsolete. More than just books and computers, libraries are places where individuals gather, interact, and learn. They provide resources, access to information and technology, and life-long learning opportunities that are free of charge for community members.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE EXISTING LIBRARY?
The current library building is the property of Grant County. The County Court will determine its future use.

WILL THE NEW FACILITY COST MORE TO RUN THAN THE CURRENT LIBRARY?
The new library design includes updated systems to enable the library to expand programs and services while controlling operating costs. This will lead to a decrease in power usage combined with energy efficiency gains through new windows and better insulation. The addition of solar energy technology will further decrease energy costs long-term and increase the buildings’ efficiency.
